Humans use tools.
ChatGPT and AI bots that spit out language are tools. It’s as simple as that, right?
So why bother writing when you can use a tool to write for you?
Fair enough.
Why bother doing anything if you can get someone else to do it for you.
Why bother making coffee when you can pay someone else to make coffee for you?
Why make your own clothes when a manufacturer can make them for you? Why grow food when a farmer can grow it for you?
And why take the time to shower when you can get someone else to shower for you? It’s all so logical, right?
But really, is it?
Whether you’re sixty years old and playing around with ChatGPT to simplify your life or you're sixteen years old and playing around with AI to make memes, these tools are having an impact.
Is it good or bad?
Maybe it’s a little bit of both.
Maybe it’s the proverbial Pandora’s box opening, allowing both the evil and the good to flourish.
And maybe, just maybe, all that really matters is you.
Your brain is a muscle
What do you want?
Are you comfortable ceding your human-ness over to an LLM?
Do you want to have someone or something thinking and writing for you?
Your brain is a muscle. When left un-used it gets weaker. Recent studies have shown that using AI chatbots is making us "dumb".

Does writing make us human?
We may have lost the ability to do many things that no longer serve us as individual humans.
But a few things remain consistent. We like things that comfort us like cooking and gardening. We want to feed and bathe ourselves. We desire intellectual independence and free speech. And we seem to want to be heard, to connect, to be human with other humans.
Writing provides autonomy, freedom, comfort, and human connection.
If someone else can do it, why should I?
Did you read these words? Or are we so far gone that you had your bot read what our human bot wrote? Have we reached maximum implementation of these tools yet, where we have removed the need to read and write and … think?
Whew! Thank goodness, because thinking takes up too much time and stress in our lives! Just like washing ourselves does - too much time and stress! Who needs to do that?
